Armstrong MetalFest
Armstrong MetalFest
Armstrong MetalFest is an annual heavy metal festival held each July at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong. The festival is run independently of the chamber. It started in 2009 and has grown into a destination event for metal fans across western Canada.
The festival pairs heavy music with camping in the Okanagan Valley. The contrast of metal and a small farming town has earned the festival a loyal following.
A 15-year history
The festival started in 2009 as Armstrong Open Air, a small gathering of local metal bands in a farm field on a stage built from a gooseneck trailer. As the festival grew, it moved to the Hassen Arena, which now hosts both the festival and on-site camping. The festival cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic and returned in 2022. The 2025 edition marked the festival’s 15th year.
A welcome boost for local businesses
MetalFest brings out-of-town visitors who fill accommodation, restaurants, and shops in Armstrong each July. The festival has earned a strong reputation locally for a respectful and tidy crowd. Chamber-member businesses see a noticeable lift during festival weekend.
