Interior Provincial Exhibition and Stampede

The Interior Provincial Exhibition and Stampede, known locally as the IPE, is Armstrong’s largest annual event. It runs for five days each August at the Armstrong Fairgrounds, 3371 Pleasant Valley Road. The IPE is run by the Armstrong Spallumcheen Agricultural Society, not the chamber.

The IPE started in 1899 and has run for more than 125 years, with the only cancellations in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19. More than 10,000 visitors come each year.

Five days of country fair

The IPE features 19 exhibition divisions with more than 1,000 classes, including livestock, baking, sewing, crafts, garden produce, and 4-H.

More than 125 years of history

The IPE started before 1900 as a settler tabletop show in what is now the Legion building. Settlers compared crops and livestock at the show to figure out what grew best in the valley. The Armstrong Spallumcheen Agricultural Society received donated land for a permanent site. The fair was renamed the North Okanagan Fall Fair in 1919, then evolved into the Interior Provincial Exhibition. The first livestock barns were built in 1910, lost to fire in 1925, and rebuilt between 1927 and 1929.
