North Okanagan Shuswap Barn Quilt Trail

The North Okanagan Shuswap Barn Quilt Trail is a self-guided driving tour of painted quilt blocks mounted on barns, businesses, and homes across the North Okanagan and Shuswap. The chamber launched the trail in 2016 as British Columbia’s first barn quilt trail.

More than 50 quilts are on display, from Davison Orchards in Vernon at the southern end to Blue Hills Lavender Farm in Salmon Arm at the northern end. Most are centrally located in and around Armstrong and Spallumcheen.

What is a barn quilt

A barn quilt is a painted quilt block square mounted on a rural building. Each one honours quilting and the area’s farming heritage. The Canadian barn quilt tradition started in Ontario in 2009. There are now thousands across Canada and the United States.

How to follow the trail

The trail is self-guided. Pick up a printed map at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Visitor Centre, or follow the trail on Facebook.

Add a barn quilt

Property owners can join the trail by contacting the chamber. The chamber works with local volunteers who research patterns, build the plywood frames, and install the completed quilts. Patterns must be non-copyrighted, and the quilt must be visible from public property.
