Business Impact Tracking is how the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce monitors real-world conditions that affect local businesses, especially physical storefronts that depend on customer access, visibility, and foot traffic.
When construction, road changes, unusual bylaws, traffic-calming installations, smoke, emergency conditions, event disruptions, or other factors make it harder for customers to reach businesses, the chamber can help gather the story, identify patterns, and bring practical information to the right partners.
What the chamber tracks
The chamber watches for issues that may reduce customer traffic, create confusion, limit access, or make day-to-day business harder.
Examples may include:
- Construction impacts near storefronts, parking areas, sidewalks, or main access routes
- Road closures, detours, traffic flow changes, and signage problems
- Traffic-calming installations that change how customers move through commercial areas
- Bylaw changes or enforcement patterns that create unexpected pressure on businesses

The chamber is tracking business impacts connected to the Summer 2026 Downtown Revitalization Project in Armstrong’s downtown core.
Construction has affected access, parking, wayfinding, customer confidence, and foot traffic for nearby businesses. Through weekly email check-ins and business follow-up, the chamber is gathering information from affected storefronts and community organizations so impacts can be shared with municipal partners and used to support practical mitigation.
Early tracking identified concerns such as:
- Reduced customer traffic, especially for retail and customer-facing businesses
- Revenue declines reported by some businesses, ranging from moderate losses to severe impacts
- Loss of nearby parking and confusion about where customers can park
- Difficulty accessing storefronts, sidewalks, services, deliveries, and appointments
- Detours, traffic flow changes, and wayfinding that customers may not understand until they are already close to the construction area
