Citizen of the Year

Citizen of the Year is a long-running Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce initiative that celebrates outstanding community service in Armstrong and Spallumcheen.

Introduced in 1975, the award recognizes people whose selfless service, volunteer work, leadership, and community spirit have made a lasting difference over time.

About the award

Every community has people who quietly show up, give their time, lift others up, and make the place they call home stronger. Citizen of the Year gives the community a way to recognize that contribution.

Past recipients have been honoured for many kinds of service, from long-term dedication to one organization to wide-ranging involvement across local causes, events, clubs, projects, and community support efforts.

Nominations

Community members are invited to nominate someone whose generosity, leadership, and service deserve to be celebrated.

Nomination packages usually ask for:

• The nominee’s name and community connection
• The nominator’s contact information
• A short written story about the nominee’s impact
• Examples of how the nominee has strengthened Armstrong and Spallumcheen
• Optional letters of support, photos, news articles, testimonials, or other documentation of service

The recipient is selected by a panel of judges based on the nomination form and supporting documentation. The award is not based on the number of votes received.

Recognition

The Citizen of the Year is traditionally announced during the Canada Day Celebration in Memorial Park.

The recipient may also be honoured at a Citizen of the Year tea hosted with the chamber, past recipients, local dignitaries, family, friends, sponsors, and community partners.

Strong local economies are built by people who volunteer, organize, mentor, serve, and create connection. Citizen of the Year helps recognize the community builders whose work makes Armstrong and Spallumcheen a stronger place to live, visit, work, and do business.
