The fall scarecrow contest. Businesses and homes across Armstrong dress up scarecrows, and food bank donations decide the winner.

Scarecrows on the Street is Armstrong’s fall scarecrow contest, run by the chamber as part of the Harvest Pumpkin Festival. Businesses and homes build scarecrows and put them on display. Scarecrows start appearing in early fall and many stay up through Halloween.
Every year the chamber publishes the scarecrow map on this website. Each year’s map stays online at its own page, so the current map is always easy to find. The chamber ran the 2025 contest under the name Straw & Stroll.
How voting works
Your donations pick the winner. In past years, each scarecrow had a collection box, and you voted by dropping in a non-perishable food item. The scarecrow that collected the greatest weight of food won. All donations go to the food bank. Check the current year’s page for this year’s voting details.
How to enter
Any business or home in town can enter. Dress at least one handmade scarecrow with a harvest theme and place it on display. After judging ends, feel free to add Halloween props. To register, email manager@aschamber.com or call (250) 546-8155. Registration closes in late September.

Previous years
- Scarecrows on the Street 2025 · The 2025 contest ran October 3 to 31 under the name Straw & Stroll. Armstrong Veterinary Clinic won the community vote with a pair of pumpkin-headed farmers and a skeleton dog.
- Scarecrows on the Street 2024 · Eighteen businesses built scarecrows for the 2024 contest. Maps were available at the Visitor Centre from October 4, voting by food donation ran until October 16, and every participant was entered to win a $50 Askew's gift card.
- Scarecrows on the Street 2023 · Thirteen scarecrows lined downtown Armstrong in October 2023. Visitors voted by dropping non-perishable food in each display's collection box, and the winner was decided by the weight of food collected.
